30MW Italian near shore project gets go ahead

The Italian Council of State (Consiglio di Stato) has rejected an appeal from the City of Taranto, the project led by Beleolico Ltd. can now proceed to construction

Installation is now likely, given that there are incentives to do so, as outlined in the draft decree on renewable energy, it has 30MW reserved for offshore wind and Taranto is the only project which is currently in a position to participate in the auction

The wind farm will be located just outside of the port near Taranto, between Cape Rondinella and the mouth of the river Tara. 10 Vestas 3MW turbines are planned to be installed with an overall cost of €63 million (£44.8million) ($69.9million).

Once built, the Taranto project will be the first offshore wind farm to be fully commissioned not only within Italy but also the Mediterranean.
