From autumn 2016, A2SEA will play a key role in building the 258MW Burbo Bank Extension Offshore Wind Farm in the UK for DONG Energy.

A2SEA will provide their specialist purpose-built offshore installation vessel SEA CHALLENGER to install the 32 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines.

The Burbo Bank Extension OWF is located next to the existing and operational Burbo OWF consisting of 25 Siemens 3.6MW turbines, which A2SEA’s jack-up barge SEA JACK installed in 2007.

”The Burbo Bank Extension is yet another important contract for A2SEA to win in a market with strong competition. In addition, we are proud of being able to install the impressive MHI Vestas 8MW turbine for the first time offshore. Our experienced crew both onshore and offshore is ready for yet another seamless, well-planned and safe operation,”
says Jens Frederik Hansen, CEO at A2SEA.

Klaus Skoust Møller, DONG Energy’s Senior Director for the Burbo Bank Extension Project, said: “We are delighted to have signed this important contract which will ensure that we benefit from a well-known partner like A2SEA when we deploy the turbines on this ground-breaking project. We are looking forward to executing the installation of the turbines in 2016 in a safe way”

Burbo Bank Ext. Offshore Wind Farm is located west of the Burbo Bank operational wind farm in Liverpool Bay. When fully commissioned, the extension will provide electricity to an additional 180,000 homes by 2017.
