ABS named as Navitus Bay 'Prefered Supplier'

Navitus Bay Development Ltd has named ABS Group Ltd. (ABS Group) as the 'Preferred Supplier' for a multi-year project certification contract by for the proposed Navitus Bay Wind Park project in the United Kingdom.

The contract covers the certification of key structural components of the project with an option for full project certification to confirm that the project achieves compliance with design and installation specifications, codes and standards. ABS Group’s scope of work includes design certification, verification of the coupled load analysis and potentially manufacturing inspections, transportation and installation surveillance, monitoring of commissioning activities and in-service inspections.

Navitus Bay Development Ltd. commented, "We are pleased to appoint ABS Group as our preferred certification body at this early stage of the project. By starting our cooperation from the design phase Navitus Bay will be well positioned to take advantage of the full range of innovative technologies available."

Adams further commented:"We look forward to assisting Navitus Bay Development through the final development, approval, installation, and operational phases of the project."

Work will commence immediately to support Navitus Bay Development Ltd. with a conceptual design verification and related activities in advance of final consent approval and financial closing. However the main scope of work is expected to commence in 2016 and continue through the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning phases through 2020.  

Navitus Bay Wind Park project located off the Dorset and Hampshire coasts of England and west of the Isle of Wight, the offshore wind park could help generate up to £1.6 billion of economic benefit to the local area and provide low carbon electricity for around 700,000 UK households.
