Image of V112-3.0 MW OffshoreThe 219MW wind farm Humber Gateway has now reached a project milestone as it has installed all of its 73 Vestas V112-3.0 MW turbines today, 44 of which are currently generating power.

The array cabling is expected to be finished by the summer and once completed all  73 Vestas V112-3.0 MW turbines will be generating power.

The Humber Gateway project is 8km off the Holderness coast, East Riding of Yorkshire, and upon completion, the wind farm will be capable of generating enough electricity to power up to 170,000 UK homes, which is more than one and a half times the number of homes in Hull.

Another key part to the project has been the connection of the offshore wind farm into the National Grid onshore. Connected through onshore and offshore cables linked to a substation, these are essential components to the project, as the cables are needed to feed the electricity generated by the wind farm into the National Grid for distribution around the UK.

After this project attention will turn towards the even bigger project of Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm (Zone 4) - Project One by SMart Wind Ltd.  They received the green light to go ahead after it was granted development consent by the Secretary of State back in December 2014.

Their development would be for the construction and operation of either two offshore wind turbine generating stations of 600MW or three generating stations of 400MW, located in the North Sea approximately 103km off the coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire. The Development would comprise of up to 240 wind turbines with a gross electrical generating capacity of up to 1200MW. The Horsea Project One has been broken into two phases - Heron Wind and Njord. Both projects have been offered an early stage Contracts for Difference (CfDs) under the Financial Investment Decision (FID) Enabling for Renwables, which comes under the new Electricity Market Reform (EMR). Eight renewable project were given CfDs including five offshore wind farms. The projects will receive a fixed strike price for 15 years.
