Atkins appoints director for offshore wind

Atkins has appointed Andy Thompson as its new delivery director for offshore wind as part of the company’s strategic aims to consolidate its leading position in the sector.

In his new role, Thompson will be responsible for Atkins’ entire offshore wind portfolio, which covers concept design and studies, detailed design and asset management services.

He will also oversee four contracts with DONG Energy at offshore wind farms across the UK, turbine jacket design at the Beatrice offshore wind farm in Scotland, and the transportation concept design for Statoil’s Hywind project.

Thompson said: “Offshore wind is a core part of the Power business and one where we have strength and depth in expertise and experience. I’m looking forward to taking on this role at such an exciting time for the business.”

Andy has previously played a leading role in Atkins’ nuclear business where he was responsible for growth outside of the UK across Europe, Asia and Africa, and directing major projects and multi-national joint ventures. Prior to this, Andy was part of Atkins’ fast-growing offshore renewables team where he was responsible for winning and delivering work across the client base.
