4C Offshore Empowering Intelligence
20 Apr 2019: update: The vessel Excalibur arrived on site to commence turbine decommissioning preparation works on 8th April and C-Fenna arrived on site on 4th April to remove the cables. However, unfavourable weather conditions caused delays and decommissioning commenced on the 20th April. The two Vestas V66-2MW turbines were taken down over four days from the 20th-24th April using the vessel Excalibur. The rest of the decommissioning work is ongoing with C-Fenna undertaking export cable removal. One turbine is expected to be recycled and reused for spare parts within E.ON’s onshore wind assets, whilst the other is to be used by the Port of Blyth for training purposes. Although expected in 2018, Blyth will be decommissioned in 2019, with work starting in April which will take four to six weeks. The preferred operations port for decommissioning activities is the Port of Blyth. The two turbines, foundations and cabling will be removed followed by remedial site works. A post decommissioning geophysical [bathymetric] survey of the site will be completed in order to provide further evidence of the complete removal of the foundation and the infilling of the voids. Decommissioning is scheduled to start at earliest on the 8th of April, and take 3 weeks.
