The Crown Estate has appointed Hogan Lovells and Bond Dickinson to advise its energy, minerals and infrastructure portfolio. The appointments follow a tender process commenced in September 2016.

Rob Booth, General Counsel and Company Secretary of The Crown Estate commented: “We are very happy to announce these appointments, which support our continued delivery of a best in class legal service across The Crown Estate. We have great confidence in Bond Dickinson and Hogan Lovells; advising on this highly strategic portfolio of assets.”

Hogan Lovells will advise our renewable energy business, with its offshore wind portfolio; that now meets around 5% of the annual UK electricity requirement and is expected to grow to 10% by 2020.

Client Relationship Partner and Hogan Lovells Chair, Nicholas Cheffings said: "We have acted for The Crown Estate for a number of years now and it is a treasured relationship. To win this mandate, we had to display a compelling combination of Real Estate, Energy and Infrastructure expertise. These are core parts of our business and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to strengthen and deepen our relationship by working on this unique portfolio."

Bond Dickinson will advise our minerals and infrastructure business, including interests in marine aggregates and subsea cables and pipelines.

Nick Page, Client Relationship Partner and Bond Dickinson Chairman, commented: “We are delighted to cement our long relationship with The Crown Estate and to continue to support them with our outstanding expertise in minerals and infrastructure.”

The Crown Estate plays a major role in the development of the offshore wind energy industry in the UK. It manages the UK seabed out to the 12 nautical mile territorial sea limit but also, under the 2004 Energy Act, holds the rights to the resources to develop renewable energy within the renewable energy zone (REZ), which extends out to the continental shelf.
