Crown Estates new "guvnor"

The Crown Estate has announced that Huub den Rooijen has been appointed as Director of Energy, Minerals and Infrastructure with immediate effect.

Huub den Rooijen joined The Crown Estate in March 2012 as Head of Offshore Wind and has over 25 years of experience in the energy sector, predominantly working with the energy company Shell. While at Shell he was responsible for its first offshore wind projects, including the first wind farm in The Netherlands. Prior to moving to renewables, he worked in oil and gas in The Hague, Houston and London.

As Head of Offshore Wind, Huub has overseen the offshore wind energy programme as part of The Crown Estate’s active asset management of the UK seabed to unlock value from this natural asset. This sector has seen significant growth for more than a decade and is now on course to meet ten per cent of the UK’s electricity demand by 2020.

As Director of Energy, Minerals and Infrastructure, Huub will continue to lead the offshore wind team in addition to overseeing ocean energy, marine aggregates, carbon capture and storage, and infrastructure including cables and pipelines.

Huub den Rooijen said: “I’m delighted to be taking forward one of the most unique roles in real estate - managing the seabed. Huub’s appointment follows Rob Hastings departure as Director of Energy and Infrastructure.
