The port has a perfect location for servicing the offshore wind farm during the construction phase and for serving as support port during the following 25 to 30-year production and maintenance period.

The Danish Energy Agency has just launched the bidding process for possible locations for new offshore wind farms close to the shore. One of these wind farms is Smaalandsfarvandets Offshore Wind Farm.

If Smaalandsfarvandets Offshore Wind Farm is chosen, it will create many new possibilities for local companies on Lolland and Falster. Therefore, the FB Suppliers network has established Smaalandsfarvandets Windsupport – a new network which will automatically draw on the members of FB Suppliers who are interested in providing services to a possible future offshore wind farm.

”This is a unique opportunity for Bandholm Port. To be the hub and support port for Smaalandsfarvandets Offshore Wind Farm will generate great activity to the port. Many local companies will become involved and it will create a lot of jobs – directly and indirectly. I believe that Bandholm’s chances for being chosen are good because of its optimal location”
, says the owner of Bandholm Port, Christoffer Knuth.

Blue Water Shipping, who manages Bandholm Port for the Knuthenborg Estate, has wide experience with operation of base ports from the company’s port activities in Esbjerg, Grenaa and Romo.

”We know from experience that in addition to warehouse facilities, office and mooring capacity for vessels, it will require all types of workmen, bus/taxi transport for crew, hotel accommodation, provision of meals as well as private necessities for the 30-50 persons who will form part of such a base during the entire 25-30 years. We are therefore pleased to be able to support the new network with services that lie within our field of expertise”
, says Niels Tolstrup, Director for Business Development in Blue Water Shipping and Deputy Chairman in FB Suppliers.

Holger Schou Rasmussen, Mayor in Lolland municipality, welcomes the new network and is pleased with the local initiative which can create additional local jobs and growth in the area.
