The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has today received a total of 8 applications for pre-qualification to participate in the tender for Kriegers Flak OWF, Denmark's largest offshore wind farm (OWF) which will an installed capacity of 600 MW.

This is the largest number of applicants for the tender of a wind farm in the Danish wind history. The DEA stated: "the great interest shows that Denmark offers attractive framework conditions and an effective and transparent bidding process."

As a result of these applications the DEA will now examine whether the applications meet the economic, financial and technical minimum criteria in the contract notice from May 6 2015. Pending the outcome , the Energy Authority will inform applicants and subsequently publish the names of the candidates who are pre-qualified to participate .

The tender for the Kriegers Flak OWF will take over a year and involves a negotiation process with the bidders. The final and binding offers must be submitted on Nov. 8, 2016 .

As Denmark's largest offshore wind farm Kriegers Flak OWF  it is a step to increase the country’s wind power capacity to over 40 percent, capable of providing electricity to meet the demand of over 600,000 homes. Wind energy is a cornerstone of Denmark’s Green Energy plan to become fossil fuel free by 2050. The planned 600MW wind farm will help strengthen regional energy markets and increase the security of supply by boosting transmission capacity.

Kriegers Flak OWF is located in the Danish zone of the Kriegers Flak area. The 180 km2 zone in the Baltic Sea was identified by the DEA's (Danish energy Agency) offshore wind programme in 2010 as one of the most attractive locations for a future Danish offshore wind farm. Sweden and Germany have also designated their territorial areas with Kriegers Flak for offshore wind, which could lead to an estimated combined total of up to 1,600 MW of offshore wind turbines.
