DEME to develop MEG I offshore wind farm in partnership

Last Thursday, 26 March 2015, DEME Concessions entered into a partnership with Nordsee Offshore MEG I GmbH to co-develop the MEG I offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

MEG I will be one of Germany’s largest offshore wind farms and is located in the German Bight, approximately 45 km north of Borkum. This 400MW project will provide renewable energy to over one million people and realises a reduction of 1.5 million tons of CO2 emissions every year.

The project has suffered set backs ever since Windreich GmbH had submitted to the Local Court in Esslingen an application for self-administered insolvency back in 2013. The impact on the project was to create huge uncertainty as MEG 1 was essentially the key asset in the insolvency process of Windreich.

Windreich managed to limp on despite the insolvency and secured an extension of the deadline for the start of construction for its MEG 1 offshore wind project until 26th February 2016. The original approval was issued in 2009 when the original deadline was set for 30 April 2014.

DEME will participate in the further development of the wind farm until financial close. Afterwards, DEME will be involved in the construction and maintenance of the wind farm and its long term funding.
