Dutch wind energy companies will share knowledge with Japanese peers

A delegation of thirty Japanese offshore wind companies will visit the Netherlands this week on a fact-finding mission to gain further understanding of the Dutch offshore wind industry strengths and capabilities. Dutch exporters association Holland Home of Wind Energy (HHWE) has invited the Japanese delegation, which is led by the Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA). This mission is a follow-up of the state visit and economic mission to Japan in 2014.

Het bezoek vindt plaats op uitnodiging van Holland Home of Wind Energy (HHWE) en is een vervolg op het Staatsbezoek en de Economische Missie van Minister Kamp naar Japan eind oktober 2014.

Hollandse windenergiebedrijven gaan kennis delen met Japanse branchegenoten. Een Japanse offshore wind delegatie komt volgende week naar Nederland om de samenwerking te bekrachtigen. Het bezoek vindt plaats op uitnodiging van Holland Home of Wind Energy (HHWE) en is een vervolg op het Staatsbezoek en de Economische Missie van Minister Kamp naar Japan eind oktober 2014.

Japan has no domestic fossil fuel reserves and the power situation in Japan after the Fukushima disaster in 2011 has encouraged the Japanese government to search for alternatives. The potential of offshore wind is enormous, but there many challenges to overcome to ensure that offshore wind fulfils its potential. Realisation of cost reduction in offshore wind is the priority in the sector for the next few years. Japan and the Netherlands hope to learn from each other to meet this challenge.

Sinds de tsunami in 2011 en de daaropvolgende ramp met de nucleaire centrale in Fukushima zoekt de Japanse overheid naar alternatieven voor kernenergie en dat biedt kansen voor het Nederlandse bedrijfsleven. Japan haalt nu slechts 0,5 procent van zijn elektriciteitsbehoefte uit windenergie, terwijl het wereldwijde gemiddelde rond de 4 procent schommelt.

The program will include visits to companies like Bow Terminal, Damen Shipyards, ECN, Falck Savety Services, Marin, Royal IHC and Knowledge Centre WMC. Also offshore and near shore projects like wind farm Westermeer wind will be visited.

De Japanse delegatie bestaat uit dertig bedrijven en wordt aangevoerd door de Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA). Op het programma staan onder meer bezoeken aan de bedrijven Bow Terminal, Damen Shipyards, ECN, Falck, Marin, Royal IHC en Knowledge Centre WMC. Ook zullen de Japanners tijdens hun vijfdaagse programma enkele windparken op zee bezichtigen en het windpark Westermeerwind bezoeken.

On Thursday June 25 HHWE and JWPA will sign an Memorandum of Understanding that will establish the terms for future cooperation in wind power. Before the signing session a traditional Kagami-biraki ceremony will be performed, in which the lid of the sake barrel is broken and sake is served to everyone present.

Donderdagmiddag 25 juni zal een samenwerkingsovereenkomst ondertekend worden door HHWE en JWPA, waarin wordt vastgelegd hoe beide partijen samen op zullen trekken om windenergie op zee verder te ontwikkelen in Nederland, Japan en mogelijk daar buiten. Voorafgaand aan deze ondertekening vindt een traditionele Japanse ‘kagami biraki’ ceremonie plaats, waarbij een vat sake wordt opengeslagen. De sake die hierbij over de rand spat is een teken van voorspoed.
