E.ON has today (Wednesday) launched a Community Support Fund to benefit sustainable projects in the parishes that border the wind farm and is part of a broader Community Fund set to benefit local communities in the East Riding of Yorkshire and Grimsby

Local community groups, voluntary organisations and registered charities are invited to apply for funding of up to £10,000 to make environmental improvements or to provide services and activities that will either make a real difference to local people's lives or the economic regeneration of the area.

Sandra Stephens, Renewable Stakeholder Manager at E.ON, said: "E.ON works to support the communities in which we operate. We're delighted to be able launch this Community Support Fund and hope many worthwhile projects and organisations in the parishes' local to our Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm will apply.

This is a rind fenced pot of money that has been set aside by E.ON

"We're interested in hearing from amenity projects that aim to make a difference to local life and community projects keen to make environmental improvements as well as those that will contribute to the economic regeneration of the area."

The Community Support Fund is available to support projects within the parishes of Easington, Skeffling, Welwick, Weeton, Winestead, Patrington, Ottingham, Keyingham, Thorngumbald, Sunk Island, Paull, Hedon and Preston.

Applications forms can be obtained from the local parish council, by visiting E.ON's website eonenergy.com/humber.

E.ON will work closely with local councils and all applications will be reviewed by a committee made up of representatives from each of the parishes. The closing date for entries in the first phase is Sunday 31st May 2015.

In addition to this fund, E.ON has already committed  to support three other important initiatives brining the company’s overall spend on community projects to £2m.

The Humber Gateway project is 8km off the Holderness coast, East Riding of Yorkshire, with a Total power of         219MW using up to 73 Vestas V112-3.0 MW turbines.

Upon completion, the wind farm will be capable of generating enough electricity to power up to 170,000 UK homes, which is more than one and a half times the number of homes in Hull.

A key part to the project is the connection of the offshore wind farm into the National Grid onshore. Connected through onshore and offshore cables linked to a substation, these are essential components to the project, as the cables are needed to feed the electricity generated by the wind farm into the National Grid for distribution around the UK.

The offshore cables will bring ashore the electricity where it will adjoin the onshore cables that will run underground for approximately 30km from Easington to Salt End. Two substations, one onshore and one offshore, will be needed to step up the voltage of the electricity that is generated by the 73 Vestas Wind Turbines to connect into the National Grid.

The total area of the site is approximately 24.8 square kilometers and its northern boundary runs parallel to existing pipelines that run into Easington. The site’s easterly and southerly boundaries are surrounded by the shipping channels leaving the Humber estuary.
