EEW Offshore Structures (Tino Richter)Teesside manufacturer EEW Offshore Structures (Britain) Ltd is celebrating the completion of its 100th Transition Piece to roll off the production line, just over 2.5 years after production first started at the plant.

The piece which is due to set sail to the Ørsted's Hornsea Project One wind farm project on 29th August 2018 will be fully completed by the EEW OSB team based at Haverton Hill on 19th June 2018.

Ray Taviner, Managing Director, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for us, EEW OSB to reach this milestone in such a short period of time, and we hope to continue in the future, building on the excellent work already achieved.”

Offshore construction recently kicked off at Hornsea Project One with the installation of the first monopile at the end of January. The installation is being carried out by GeoSea’s jack-up installation vessel, Innovation. It will carry up to four monopiles at a time, each one is 65m long, weighs around 800t and has a diameter of 8.1m.

In March, Innovation will be joined by A2Sea’s vessel SEA INSTALLER to share the task of transition piece installation.

Poised to become the world’s biggest wind farm the project is anticipated to produce enough energy for well over one million UK homes. It will have a capacity in excess of 1.2GW and is located 120km off the Yorkshire coast. The 174 turbine array is due to be commissioned in 2020.
