Yesterday, the European Investment Bank (EIB) set forth a proposed €250 million for the backing of the 165MW Belgian Wind farm, Nobelwind. The project is expected to cost €650 million.

EIB's support will contribute to their EU national targets for renewable energy generation, providing security of energy supply and environmental objectives. The project will further contribute to the Bank's priority objectives for energy sector lending related to renewable energy and climate action.

Back in 2008 the project was granted an operating permit for construction after the Environmental Impact Assessment was considered acceptable.

Financial close is expected to happen in November 2015, although originally, in 2012 an application for EU NER300 funding was unsuccessful which cancelled their plans to install 6 pre-series Alstom machines. The funds consisted of €300 million and was going to be used to test 6 new Alstom turbines. Construction is planned start in April 2016 and completion is set for December 2017.

The project is located 46km off the Belgian coast with a total area of 19.8 m2.

(All costs released by EIB are liable for change)
