Holyhead Marina was a scene of carnage and devastation today as 66 mile an hour gusts hit the Welsh coast. The marina was almost completely destroyed and part of the fleet of crew transfer vessels owned by Turbine Transfers was particularly badly hit with possibly four vessels badly damaged.

A total of ten commercial vessels in total were sunk or badly damaged early as the storm nicknamed in the UK "the beast from the east" moved through Wales with very high tides and freezing conditions following shortly after.

Casualties to the fleet include Crew Transfer Vessels Lynas Point, a 15m vessel built back in 2009, Penrhyn Bay, a 19m crew transfer vessel built in 2010, Malltraeth Bay, 21m vessel built in 2012, and Wylfa Head, a 15m vessel built in 2009.

First reports have identified around 70 private boats and 10 commercial vessels trashed or sunk. Pontoons were also damaged along with the marina itself. Furthermore, fuel has reportedly leaked into the water.
