EPG delivers external platforms for Arkona wind farm

Energomontaż-Północ Gdynia (EPG) has loaded out ten platforms from its facility in Gdynia for Bladt Industries in Aalborg, Denmark. The ten platforms with total weight 240 tonnes were loaded onboard RIX PACIFIC and shipped to the Bladt to be used in the construction of transition pieces destined for the Arkona offshore wind farm.

The scope concerns the construction of 30 external platforms with a total weight of 720 tonnes. Dispatch of last four platforms is planned for early March 2017. A total of 26 platforms have left the EPG facility. External platforms (with breadth 9.5 m and length 11.5 m) were entirely fabricated in EPG production hall on Handlowa Street in Gdynia.

The Arkona project is located 35km off the island of Rügen and will have an installed capacity of 385MW. It is anticipated that the project will be capable of supplying renewable energy to 400,000 households annually.

The major components for the project are currently under construction. The production of the monopole foundations has begun at the EEW facility in Rostock and construction of the offshore transformer station by the French shipyard STX in the docks at Marseille is progressing well.

A total of 60 Siemens 6MW wind turbines will be installed at the site. The turbines will be place on monopile foundations in water depths from 23 up to 37m. Foundation installation is scheduled to go kick off Q1 207 with the project expected to go into operation during 2019.

Norwegian energy group Statoil and E.ON each own a 50% stake in the project and investment amounts to more than €1.2bn (£1bn).
