Fathom Systems has been contracted to provide turnkey service of design engineering, procurement and manufacture of specialist electrical distribution equipment to be installed in each of the 84 turbine foundations intended for the Beatrice offshore wind farm.

Delivery is scheduled throughout Q1 and Q2-2017.

The 75m tall, 1,035 tonne jacket foundations are currently under construction by Bladt Industries (30), BiFab (26), and Smulders (28).

Stuart Falcus, BD Manager for Fathom Systems, comments: “This is a significant achievement as Fathom Systems look to diverse and identify opportunities in other markets, most notably the Offshore Renewable Energy Market.

This is the perfect entry into this market that we had hoped for and complements our current and ongoing business as industry leaders in the supply of high end Commercial Diving and Control System products.  The supply of our high quality engineered products for the Beatrice Project will assure a foothold in this sector which we plan to build on as further opportunities are identified”.

The Beatrice project is a joint venture between SSE Renewables Limited, SDIC Power of China and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. It is situated in the Outer Moray Firth off the east coast of Scotland and the project owners reached financial close on the 23rd May 2016. It is expected that the wind farm will be operational by 2019.

The project features 84 Siemens 7MW wind turbines which shall be inter-connected by an inner array grid of 91 33kV medium voltage alternating current submarine composite cables with a total length of up to 164 km.

The wind farm will be supported onshore from a new £10m operations and maintenance facility in Wick, where equipment will be transported in and out of field, which recently secured planning permission from the HIghland Council.
