Final turbine installed at Kentish Flats Extension

Vattenfall has announced that the last of the 15 MHI Vestats V112 3.3MW has been installed at the Kentish Flats Extension site. GeoSea's Neptune jack up vessel completed the installation on schedule and is leaving the site.

Vattenfall stated that "Although a relatively small offshore project, we have to work within a small window and do not have the luxury of picking up the lost time later as is the case on larger projects. Communication, organisation and co-ordination has to be tight and robust health and safety policy crucial to avoid unnecessary delays. Bringing this part of the project in on time is a real testament to the high level of efficiency across the whole project – important also to remember that this project has spanned four years – from pre-consent through to construction."

The project is now moving into the commissioning phase with work taking pace at both the wind a farm and the sub station located in Herne Bay.

The switchgear power cable terminations have been prepared to be connected to the UKPN network. Connection is expected to take place August 18th. The high voltage equipment will be considered live from this point and Vattenfall will implement safety rules to ensure all work is carried out safely.

Generation of electricity is expected by the end of September and full commissioning at the end of this year.
