MPI Offshore (MPI Adventure during Sandbank turbine installation) MPI Offshore's jack-up installation vessel MPI Adventure has been loaded-out with components for the final four Siemens SWT-4.0.130 turbines destined for the Sanbank offshore wind farm. Turbine installation kicked off in late July 2016 and a total of 68 Siemens turbines are in place.

Eidsvik's Acergy Viking is currently on the wind farm providing accommodation and providing walk-to-work access for Siemens' construction team. The technicians will have access to turbines in wave heights of up to 2.5m and the vessel allows for 24 hour operation. The two companies recently signed an agreement for the vessel to continue operations in the German sector.

The total investment for the Sandbank offshore wind farm amounts to around EUR 1.2bn (GBP 916m). Vattenfall owns 51% in the project with Stadtwerke München holding the remainder. The array will have an installed capacity of 288MW and is located 90km west of the island of Sylt and is part of the Vattenfall Sylt-Esbjerg-Cluster.

The project successfully supplied its first power to the German electricity network in September 2016 and once fully commissioned it is anticipated that it will generate enough energy annually to meet the demands of 400,000 German households.
