The construction of 48 Siemens wind turbines for the near-shore wind farm Westermeerwind in the IJsselmeer has started. Today the first tower was placed on the earlier (in May) completed foundation.

The towers came on a special transport ship from the port of Amsterdam, the two 50 meters high towers were brought directly to the construction site.

Once the towers were at the correct foundation, a floating crane was used to place the lower part of the tower onto the foundation just above the water level, then the crane placed the second part of the tower on top. Van Oord and Mammoet were involved with the assembling of the towers.

The blades are firstly taken to Medemblik, Holland to be assembled. Once all the blades are attached to the rotor they are shipped out to the construction site where they are mounted to the nacelle.

First power is expected in the autumn when the export cables are brought ashore, full commissioning is expected for February 2016.
