With 10 kilometres of power cables installed in the Bay of Fundy, a new environmental monitoring program in development, and turbines set for deployment in the near future, FORCE is pleased to announce new board and staff support.

FORCE welcomes Joe Fitzharris as the chair of the board of directors. Mr. Fitzharris is Quality Manager at AMEC Black and McDonald, and has previously held senior management positions at Marener Group of Companies and Irving Shipbuilding. Joe has previously served as an independent director at FORCE, and chair of the Maritimes Energy Association.

“Joe is a phenomenal resource – the perfect leader as we move into full-fledged operations,”
said Tony Wright, general manager of FORCE. “He’s already been hard at work building the relationships we need to make FORCE successful over the next five years.”

“The marine renewable energy industry is in its infancy,” said Mr. Fitzharris. “FORCE can be a catalyst to its development in a safe, environmentally sustainable manner. We have one of the best tidal energy resources in the world – and we’ve added both the infrastructure on the seabed and expertise to make it happen.”

Mr. Fitzharris added: “We also have the ability to lay the groundwork that will create good jobs in Nova Scotia, particularly in rural communities. I look forward to the challenges and successes ahead as we work together to study the potential of tidal energy to play a role in our future.”

FORCE is also grateful former chair John Woods continues as a board director, leading Minas Energy’s tidal project.

Mr. Wright said: “We’re where we are today thanks to John Woods’ leadership – he led the initial site development, including building the facility, overseeing our environmental approvals, and putting our team in place. Thankfully, his expertise remains at our board table.”

John Woods, Minas Energy’s vice president of energy development, said: “It’s been an honour to sit as chair as we built FORCE’s common infrastructure from start to finish. I feel confident passing the torch to Joe; this allows me time to focus completely on Minas Energy’s tidal efforts.”

FORCE also welcomes new directors Jeremy Poste, Director for Cape Sharp Tidal and Country Manager for OpenHydro Technology Canada, Johnny Watson, project manager of Atlantis Resources, and Sue Molloy, general manager of Black Rock Tidal Power.
