The French Government has confirmed that it is in the process of signing the concessions for the occupation of the  Fécamp, Courselles-sur-mer and Saint Nazaire offshore wind areas.

Development of the three sites has been awarded to a consortium led by EDF Énergies Nouvelles and is set to feature GE’s 6MW Haliade offshore wind turbines.

The Courselles-sur-mer project is to have a 450MW capacity and is to be comprised of 75 turbines on monopile foundations. The 498MW Fécamp will have up to 83 turbines and will use gravity-based foundations due to the chalk based soil at the site. The Saint Nazaire project is set to feature 80 turbines, with a combined capacity of 480MW, supported by monopile foundations.

France plans to have 3GW of offshore wind energy installed and operational by 2023 with up to a further 6GW allocated for development. Competitive dialogue for the Oleron project has begun and the appointment of shortlisted candidates for the Dunkirk area is expected in April.

The administrative authorisations of the park of Saint-Brieuc will be issued in the coming days.

The Government also plans to open a tender for tidal energy projects off the regions of Normandy and Brittany later this year. The competitive dialogue procedure is anticipated to be launched later in 2017, following the establishment of zones for the development of projects from 50MW to 100MW.
