Galloper offshore wind farm limited (GOWL) have today (01-Dec-15) applied to the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets for an electricity generation licence.

The licence under section 6(1)(a) of the Electricty Act of 1989 will allow GOWL to generate electricity off the coast of Suffolk.

A Balfour Beatty led consortium currently owns the transmission assets associated with the Galloper offshore wind farm. This includes two offshore substation platforms and three 28 mile export cables. Balfour Beatty Power, Transmission and Distribution is responsible for the management and coordination of all O&M activities associated with these assets.

Last month, GOWL announced that they selected the Port of Lowestoft (See Image) as the base of offshore construction for the Galloper Offshore Wind Farm. The announcement coincided with offshore wind week, and was confirmed with local Member of Parliament, Peter aldous at an event held at the OrbisEnergy centre Lowestoft.

Galloper offshore wind farm is being developed next door to the existing and fully operational 504MW Greater Gabbard Wind Farm off the coast of Suffolk. Galloper is estimated to be valued at £1.5bn worth of investment was awarded Development Consent in May 2013.

Further GWFL project announcements, including the final decision on the Operations & Maintenance base are expected to be made in the coming months.
