Galloper topside nearing completion

Heerema Fabrication Group (Heerema) has rolled out the Galloper offshore wind farm substation topside from is fabrication hall in Hartlepool, UK. Further construction work will take place before the topside is transported offshore for installation.

Heerema is also responsible for the fabrication of the jacket foundation for the offshore substation. It was rolled out last month and has since been up-ended. The substation is scheduled to sail away in June 2017 for installation offshore by Seaway Heavy Lifting.

The Galloper offshore wind farm is being implemented next door to the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard wind farm and represents an expected investment potential of around £1.5bn (€1.78 billion). Foundation installation breached the halfway mark on 13th February with the 28th unit installed by GeoSea's jack-up installation vessel Innovation.

Innogy SE is leading the development and construction of the project on behalf of the its partners the UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services, Sumitomo Corporation and Macquarie Capital.

The project will have a capacity of 336MW and the electricity it generates will be sold through long-term power purchase agreements with off-takers across the UK. It is expected to meet the needs of approximately 336,000 households.

Commercial production is scheduled to commence in 2018 and is expected to provide clean energy for 25 years.
