Gemini Windpark announced on social media that the Pacific Osprey has completed the projects 100th pile installation.

The 161m Jack up vessel, owned and operated by Swire Blue Ocean, has been tasked with the installations of monopiles at the Gemini offshore wind farm. The vessel completed it's 50th installation mid August this year. The vessel has been deployed from Eemshaven, Holland carrying 3 sets of full foundations for one installation cycle. The projects foundations consist of a monopile and transition piece. Van Oord's Aeolus has been installing foundations along side the Pacific Osprey, both vessels began the installation at the beginning of July 2015.

At the end of last month Van Oord successfully installed both of the 2,500t Offshore High Voltage Stations (OHVS), Buitengaats and ZeeEnergie. Installation of the substations was carried out using the  Rambiz heavy lift vessel.

Van Oord stated that "the realisation of the large offshore wind project construction is proceeding as planned."

Other vessels in the Van Oord fleet are also playing an important role in the construction of the Gemini wind park  85 km off the coast of Groningen. The cable-laying vessel Nexusis installing two export cables, each measuring 100 km. These will be buried in the seabed by the Jan Steen, a multi-purpose vessel fitted with a larger subsea trencher. The cable-laying vessel HAM 602 will install the cables between the foundations and the OHVSs and then the Jan Steen will bury them with the trencher.

The Gemini project, expected to be operational in 2017, will be considered one of the largest wind projects in the world. It is also constructed further from land than any other wind farm (85 km off the Dutch coast) and isn't visible from land. When complete, the park will have a total power capacity of 600 MW and will supply 785,000 households with green electricity, which corresponds to a reduction in emissions of 1,250,000 tons of CO2.
