Olaf Scholz, First Mayor of the City of Hamburg, Dr. Carsten Sieling, Mayor of the City of Bremen and Olaf Lies, Minister of Economic Affairs of Lower Saxony, were invited to join partners and managing directors of Global Tech I Offshore Wind GmbH to officially put into operation the Global Tech 1 wind farm.

According to Global Tech I Offshore Wind GmbH the site can supply approximately 445,000 households annually with electricity, thus making an important contribution to environmentally friendly energy supply.

Detlef schmeer, Technical Director of Global Tech I Offshore Wind GmbH: "As early as July 27 this year, the 80th wind turbine of Global Tech I fed stream. Today we are very proud that we can officially put into operation the North-power plant. With our 80 wind turbines and the transformer station in the midst of the wind farm, which is manned around the clock, we want to ensure a reliable power supply of 445,000 households. "

Global Tech I is one of the first offshore wind farms to be built in the German North Sea. The project is comprised of a total of 80 5MW Adwen AD 5-116 wind turbines, installed in depths of 40 meters, giving a total installed capacity of 400 megawatts. The project is located 180 kilometers from Bremerhaven and 138 kilometers from Emden in a north-westerly direction. In 2006, the 80 wind turbines and the associated substation won approval from the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (BSH).

Willi Balz, Managing Director of GTU II GmbH and founder of Windreich stated “When I founded Wetfeet GmbH in 2008, from which Global Tech I subsequently sprang, I was inspired by the idea to build future wind farms only where there are constant winds, namely offshore. As an experienced regatta sailor, glider pilot and wind miller I am convinced that thanks to the streamlined wind conditions there, it is feasible for distant offshore wind farms to achieve 4,500 hours of maximum load. Fortunately, I was able to convince energy utilities and other investors seven years ago with our vision of Global Tech I, enabling us to garner the initial investment required. With German engineering skills and robust technology we have mastered all the challenges. Today we can look back with satisfaction on what we have jointly achieved and look forward to a future of production records. Another important step towards efficient implementation of the energy policy turnaround.“
