GWSThe final Adwen AD 5-135 turbine at the Wikinger offshore wind farm was installed by Global Wind Service (GWS). The project began with GWS QA technicians on 25th December 2016, with installation technicians joining on New Year’s Eve.

Although installation has now been completed, GWS will stay on site to complete NCR, completion and 500-hour service checks on all 70 turbines. During the installation period over 140 GWS technicians have been working on the site to support the project.

Fred. Olsen related company Fred. Olsen Windcarrier provided the jack-up installation vessel, Brave Tern, for the installation.

“Working with GWS, drawing on our joint experience from Global Tech I, we were able to deliver a great service to our client despite challenging weather conditions in the Baltic Sea,”
said Fred. Olsen Windcarrier project manager, Alexandra Koefoed.

“The teamwork among both the GWS guys and the Fred. Olsen Windcarrier crew has been absolutely exceptional on this project, and I am really proud of the guys safe and thorough effort out there,”
said Martin Udengaard, GWS project manager.

With an investment of close to €1.4bn, Wikinger will have a 350MW capacity and it is anticipated to generate enough electricity to meed the demands of 350,000 German households. This represents more than 20% of the energy demand in the local region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, according to project developer Iberdrola.
