Granada Material Handling recently delivered its 1000th wind farm davit crane as part of its contract to supply 174 cranes to Ørsted for its Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

Mark Sidwell, director of Granada Material Handling Ltd, added: “We are extremely pleased to have reached this prestigious milestone in our delivery programme; this is testament to our tried, tested and proven product and also our strong UK supply chain. With the recently announced contract wins for Granada at East Anglia 1 and Hornsea Offshore wind farms we expect a busy year ahead.’’

Offshore construction recently kicked off at Hornsea Project One with the installation of the first monopile at the end of January. The installation is being carried out by GeoSea’s jack-up installation vessel, Innovation. It will carry up to four monopiles at a time, each one is 65m long, weighs around 800t and has a diameter of 8.1m.

In March, Innovation will be joined by A2Sea’s vessel SEA INSTALLER to share the task of transition piece installation.

Poised to become the world’s biggest wind farm, the project is anticipated to produce enough clean energy for well over one million UK homes. It is located 120km off the Yorkshire coast and will consist of 174 turbines due to be commissioned in 2020.
