Great interest in Danish test site

The Danish Ministry of Energy utilities and Climates has announced that there is great interest in participating in the special trial period of 50 MW of new offshore wind technology.

The selection, made by the Danish Energy Agency, will have to meet objective criteria such as development potential and cost effectiveness.

"It's a strong field competing for the 50 MW, and I have great expectations for the outcome of the pilot scheme. I hope that the selected projects will create cutting-edge technology that will make future wind farms cheaper and more efficient so we can get lower electricity prices, increase exports of energy and creating Danish jobs
", says the energy, power and thermal Minister Lars Chr. Lilleholt.

The following projects are competing for the 50 MW test scheme:

1.        EDF Energies Nouvelles with the project "Frederikshavn Offshore Wind Demo" applicant for 40 MW. EDF's project will focus on foundations and cables, installation and operation and maintenance.
2.        European Energy (EE) med projektet ”Monopiles & Turbines – Life Cycle Improvements” applying for 44 MW. EE's project will focus on the installation of the monopile and protection against erosion.
3.        European Energy med projektet ”GBF enhanced – version 2 and O&M optimisation " applying for 32 MW. This EE project will focus on reducing the cost of construction of foundations and operation of offshore wind farms .
4.        Nissum Broads Vindmøllelaug project "Testbed for new technologies and integrated design" applicant for 28 MW. This smaller project will include test and optimisation of the new Siemens 7 MW wind turbine as well as prototypes of "Gravity Jacket" foundations.
The Danish Ministry of Energy utilities and Climates stated that the four developers must take the next step in the development and demonstration of technologies to be awarded the test scheme.

"The interest in the pilot scheme confirms once again that Denmark is one of the most attractive countries in Europe to develop offshore wind farms and invest in green transition. I am pleased when good competition and innovation is the way to lower costs, increase growth and improve the competitiveness
", added Lilleholt.

The DEA will now evaluate applications based on the minimum and assessment criteria of "Call for applications" from July 2015. The final decision expected to be made by the end of the year.
