Humber gets global attention

Hull and Humber’s emerging renewable energy sector is being promoted across Europe through a series of international exhibitions that are being supported by the Green Port Growth Programme (GPGP).

Under the Humber Renewables brand, the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), local authority partners and private sector representatives will visit Copenhagen, Paris, Glasgow, London and Liverpool this year, to promote the Humber to the wider, European renewables market. This is to foster more inward investment to the region and to give local businesses the opportunity to showcase their offerings in the market.

The GPGP, which is supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund and is designed to help regional businesses capitalise on renewable opportunities, has played several roles in supporting the Humber Renewables exhibition programme since it was established last year, from funding to assistance at the events.

Chair of Humber LEP Lord Haskins said:

“These exhibitions are remarkably successful for showcasing the Humber, demonstrating the strength of the partnership and commitment of the LEP and the Humber authorities to encourage investment. They enable us to bring the Green Port Hull brand to an international audience and succeed in generating new business.”

Chair of the Green Port Growth Programme Board and Managing Director of JR Rix & Sons Ltd, Tim Rix comments:

“This series of exhibitions is a great tool to establish Hull as a centre for research, development and innovation for the renewables industry. With the events making such a positive impact, they also provide a valuable opportunity for businesses in the Humber region to showcase their services on an international platform. We would encourage local companies to sign up and take part in the exhibitions programme.”

Jonathan Rollinson, owner of Hull company Point Engineering, attended the Renewables UK 2014 exhibition with Humber Renewables and welcomed financial assistance from the GPGP.

“The support to get our area on the stand looking as we wanted was excellent, which allowed us to concentrate on the main task in hand – promoting what we do.

“As a small company seeking more business in the renewables market, we welcomed the funding and the presence with other Humber-based firms. It really was a benefit networking with others on the stand and having the opportunity to pass on, or receive potential leads.”
