Inch Cape submits new application for onshore planning permission

Inch Cape Offshore Limited (ICOL), a Red Rock Power subsidiary, has submitted a new planning permission application in principle for the onshore substation for the Inch Cape offshore wind farm.

Following feedback on the initial application the wind farm team have spent the last year consulting with members of the public on a new location for the onshore substation and settled upon the former Cockenzie Power Station site.

Ian Johnson, ICOL Project Manager said: "We have taken on board the local community’s feedback on the originally proposed site and therefore proposed a new location for the onshore components of the wind farm in this new application. We have made every effort to study potential impacts to the local communities and the environment. We will continue to listen to the public’s feedback and concerns in coming months."

The project was previously granted planning permission in principle for the construction, operation and decommissioning of an onshore substation in 2014. But this previous planning permission has now lapsed.

The project was severely delayed due to a long running judicial battle with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) alongside three other Scottish projects. This was resolved last year clearing the way for the developers to proceed with construction.

The new application and supporting Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) are now available for members of the public to review. If the application in principle is consented a more detailed planning application will be submitted in due course.

ICOL’s proposed 784MW offshore wind farm is located in the North Sea around 15 km off the Angus coastline. The site covers an area of approximately 150 km2 and will consist of up to 110 turbines supported by fixed foundations and substructures.
