Please note that export cables connect the offshore transformer (substation) to either; shore or an offshore HVAC-HVDC converter station for onward transmission via HVDC cabling. Please see the
converters page
for planned converter stations and transmission cables.
The export cable length does not generally include the onshore component. The exception is when the onshore substation is close to shore.

Planning - Grid Connection Agreement
National Grid offered the project an onshore grid connection on the Scottish Mainland and raised the possibility of an offshore hub connection at the Islay site. Offer currently under review. (Application to National Grid made in May 2012). It has been proposed that the grid connection will be shared with DP Energy's 400MW tidal array.

Planning - Site Investigation
Increased site boundary line to the north west of the original site. The reason for this change was to mitigate concerns about the constructability and operability in the south of the site due to sea and seabed conditions. New boundary agreed with Crown Estate.

Planning - Other Approval
The Crown Estate has awarded agreements for lease for the project. An agreement for lease provides an option to take a seabed lease in the future.
