The Fukushima Hamakaze wind turbine, part of the Fukushima FORWARD offshore wind project, is being towed from the coast of Osaka to its demonstration site off Fukushima. The structure is being towed by a total of four vessels, using one as a stabiliser, and will travel an average speed of 3-4 knots. Arrival is expected on the 8th July at approximately 22:30pm (JST).

The Hitachi HTW 5.0-126 turbine was installed over two days on a semi-submerged structure which measures 50m in both width and height and off the coast of Sumoto, Hyogo Prefecture in Japan.

The foundation toppled over on the 9th May whilst en route to a location off the coast of Awaji. It was secured in a stable condition and recovered on the 17th May. No injuries are reported to have occurred during the incident.

The 12MW phase of the Fukushima FORWARD project also consists of a 7MW Mitsubishi Sea Angel turbine, labelled Fukushima Shimpuu,  installed on a 3-column semi-submersible platform last year.  Full commissioning of the project is expected by the end of 2016.
