03 Jan 2024: Enefit Green has received approval from Estonia's Ministry of Climate for their Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Hiiumaa wind farm, giving their opinion for the building permit procedure to go ahead. After reviewing the submitted EIA, the Ministry had decided to select the fourth turbine configuration alternative provided which, after mitigation measures are implemented, would mean a total capacity of 960 MW from 48 turbines. This is 140 MW less than Enefit Green had applied for. This implies the use of 20 MW turbines, which may rule out Enefit Greens preferred suppliers Siemens Gamesa or Vestas as these are not currently available and currently (as of January 2024) being produced by Mingyang. The building permit procedure will be carried out by Estonia's Technical Regulation Authority, TTJA, and is estimated to be granted over the coming weeks.
