MHI Vestas extends Jutlandia turbine agreement

Jutlandia Terminal has been commissioned by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind to support handling and loading works for its V164 turbines to be deployed at the Aberdeen Bay, Borkum Riffgrund 2 and Horns Rev 3.

The new agreement replaces an old agreement between Jutlandia and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind and came into force on March 1, 2018.

The scope comprises of the loading of approximately 120 complete V164-8.0 MW turbines for the projects. All turbine components come to Esbjerg from Lindø and Nakskov, where they are assembled and will be loaded on installation vessels.

The Aberdeen Bay project will feature 11 MHI Vestas V164-8.0MW turbines. With an installed capacity of 92.4MW the project is testing of evolving technology including suction bucket foundations and 66kV array cables.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 is owned by Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partners and is expected to be fully commissioned by the end of 2019. The wind turbine array will be one of the largest in Germany with a capacity of 450MW. The project will feature 36 monopile foundations and 20 jacket foundations featuring suction bucket technology. Installation of the monopile foundations is underway with installation of the jackets to follow in the coming weeks.

Horns Rev 3 is the first project to be built in Danish waters for five years. When complete, expected 2020, the 406.7MW project is anticipated to provide enough power to satisfy the annual electricity consumption of 425,000 Danish households. It is being developed near Horns Rev 1 and Horns Rev 2.
