MHI Vesta Ahead of financial close Moray Offshore Windfarm East (MOWE), a joint venture between EDP Renewables (77%) and ENGIE (23%), is rapidly progressing with supply chain agreements for the 950MW Moray East Offshore Wind Farm.

MHI Vestas will supply and install 100 V164 9.5MW offshore wind turbines in the Outer Moray Firth, 22km from the East Coast of Scotland. GeoSea, a DEME subsidiary, has also been awarded the contract for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) of the 100 wind turbine foundations and three offshore substation platform foundations. The contract awards are subject to financial close which is expected to take place in the second half of 2018.

The 950MW project was one of three which were successful in the UK Government's latest Contracts for Difference auction (CfD) which saw the price of offshore wind in the UK fall by 50%. Moray East is to be delivered in 2022/23 with a strike price of £57.5/MWh (€63.31/MWh). The project execution is scheduled to commence at the start of next decade.

Moray East Project Director, Oscar Diaz commented that “through our supply chain engagement, from local ports to global companies, I know that this announcement has been keenly anticipated.  It is a major milestone of local, national and international interest in terms of economic opportunities, and we look forward to working with MHI Vestas to realize them by taking the project to the construction phase. Co-operation with MHI Vestas to couple the latest turbine technology with advances in engineering and project deployment has enabled the achievement of major reductions in the cost of offshore wind."

“The extensive works within this package mean that the announcement of GeoSea represents major progress to project delivery. This work package can bring significant opportunities to the economy, and our ongoing work with Geosea will enable those opportunities to be optimised.”
