NavacelEarlier this month Spanish manufacturer Navacel loaded out the first set of towers for Statoil's floating Hywind project.

The shipment of towers departed Navacel's facility in the Port of Bilbao and was transported to the assembly area in Stord, Norway. The towers have a height of 83m and a diameter of 7.5m at the base and 4.2m at the top where the nacelle will be fitted. The towers weigh approximately 562.5 tonnes.

Now at the Stord base the towers will be assembled before they will be floated out to the Hywind project site off the coast of Aberdeen later this month.

The turbines will be installed on floating foundations operating in water depths between 90 and 120m. Assembly, expected to take place on the West Coast of Norway, is scheduled for first half 2017.
