New boat landings have been commissioned in the Port of IJmuiden for construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms Offshore wind farms in the North Sea. Currently, there are two wind farms are located in the North Sea off the Dutch west coast: the OWEZ wind farm with 36 wind turbines and Prinses Amaliawindpark wind farm with 60 turbines. The total capacity of the two wind farms is 228MW.  A third offshore wind farm, Eneco Luchterduinen, is now under construction off the coast at Zandvoort and this will have 43 turbines with a total capacity of 129MW.

New premises for MHI Vestas Offshore and Eneco
MHI Vestas Offshore recently began using a new extension to the industrial building and offices for its third maintenance team. Eneco has also moved into new offices in  IJmuiden for the maintenance of the Prinses Amaliawindpark and to oversee the construction of the new Eneco Luchterduinen wind farm.

New facilities for landing crew transfer vessels
In response to the major increase in the transport of MHI Vestas maintenance crew and Eneco staff to and from the offshore wind farms due to all these developments, Port Authority Zeehaven IJmuiden N.V.  has constructed three new boat landings for MHI Vestas Offshore and Eneco.
These new boat landings make it easy and safe to step from the quayside on to the windcats. Windcats are crew transfer vessels that make direct physical contact with the boat landing or landing platform (see enclosed picture).

Good year for Prinses Amaliawindpark in IJmuiden
Eneco's Prinses Amaliawindpark can once again look back on another excellent year, according to an announcement by its owner Eneco on 12 January 2015. In fact, the months of January, February and December 2014 ended with a production of more than 30 percent above expectations. These months are even in the top five best months of the wind farm, that has been operational since July 2008. In addition to quite stable high annual production, the wind farm also had high availability of wind turbines at an average of around 98%. Moreover, production of offshore wind, despite fluctuations on a monthly basis, was stable on an annual basis, it varied by only 2% in recent years.

Port Authority Zeehaven IJmuiden N.V. sees good opportunities for offshore wind energy in the region. The decision by the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Mr. H. Kamp, to designate three large areas for offshore wind farms has been well received in IJmuiden. In particular, the construction of wind farms with output capacities of 700MW in 2017 and 700MW in 2018 off the coast of the Province of Zuid-Holland, and the construction of a wind farm further north off the coast of the Province of Noord-Holland, with a capacity of 700MW in 2019, offers good opportunities for Zeehaven IJmuiden N.V. and for the specialist companies located in the region.
