NSW scores Trianel Borkum II cable contract

Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) has been awarded a contract for the delivery of the inner array cables for the Trianel Windpark Borkum II wind farm by Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC).

The order includes the manufacture of around 60km of medium voltage submarine power cables, whose delivery is planned for middle of 2018. They will connect the 32 wind turbines of the wind farm to the existing substation, which was installed as part of the Trianel Windpark Borkum I project.

The Trianel Windpark Borkum II project is located 45 km North of Borkum Island in the German bight. The 203MW offshore wind farm will comprise of 32 Senvion wind turbines, each with a 6.3 MW capacity.
EWZ and Fontavis AG recently acquired a 24.5% stake in the project as a joint venture. The two companies will own the project alongside EWE AG, the Stadtwerk-Cooperation Trianel together with a further 18 municipalities from Germany.

An official final investment decision for the project is expected in Q2 2017 with construction following in 2018 and operations beginning by the end of 2019 at the latest.
