Construction of the Burbo Bank Extension project in the Irish Sea has kicked off. Van Oords installation vessel, Svanen, has installed the first monopile and the transition piece will be installed shortly. There is a guard vessel on site and the Svanen, is being supported by two anchor handling tugs.

A2SEA's SEA INSTALLER will be mobilised to the site in September to carry out turbine installation work.

Last week, Engie Fabricom and Iemnants completed the load out of the 1180t offshore substation topside and associated 985t jacket foundation. Both structures will head to the site for installation by the Stanislav Yudin this month.

A total of 32 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines will be installed at the Burbo Bank extension site, significantly boosting the capacity of the existing 90MW Burbo Bank project in Liverpool Bay. The extension project will cover an area of 40km2 and will be the first large-scale wind farm to deploy the new MHI Vestas 8.0 MW turbine.
