Offshore vessel increase for Port Den Helder

 The number of offshore related seagoing vessels that docks at the port of Den Helder has increased in 2014 to 2776, a growth of 7% compared to 2013. An increasing economic growth in the offshore industry (oil, gas and renewables), defence industry, fisheries and maritime industry knowledge also occurred.  

"Thanks to good coordination with the offshore companies, the fishing and the Royal Navy, we took full advantage of our port capacity. In the coming years we want to expand our capacity even further and develop the port as the central hub for offshore activities in the southern part of the North Sea, "
says CEO Piet-Hein Kolff Port of Den Helder.  

The port authority facilitates and actively promotes growth of companies in the port and the region. Kolff: "Last year, we have seen an increase in activity and employment in the offshore industry.Peterson has served as oil platforms, DHSS turned more sales and Seamar taken a new vessel into service. Daman is developing really to generate jobs in the region. "



The offshore industry is the most important economic factor for the port of Den Helder. The region also has many supporting and facilitating services to the industry. Port of Den Helder has the ambition to grow further in the coming years through collaboration and innovative developments. "Our mission is clear. The port of Den Helder is your knowledge and servicehub for the growing offshore industry in the southern part of the North Sea, "said Kolff.

For some time the port of Den Helder has developed as an offshore and harbour defence of regional, national and international importance. In 2013, the Port Authority contracted with the Royal Navy to berth ships in the naval port. Last year, during the Offshore Energy exhibition in Amsterdam a partnership with the industry was made to make the best use of the ports infrastructure, creating more space to exploit quays and commercial lots. Finally, the development of the new inner Kooyhaven means an additional support for the seaport and inland waterways.

The annual figures show that besides an increase in offshore activities, the number of visiting fishing vessels has grown from 1,905 in 2013 to 2,000 in 2014. In North Holland Den Helder Last year 705 ships unloaded their fish. The number of port calls from barges declined from 229 in 2014 to 110.
