Offshore Wind Consultants Limited (OWC) has completed a contract for the provision of support covering a site investigation, preliminary foundation analysis, risk appraisal and turbine layout assessment for ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm.

OWC, part of Oslo-listed energy consultancy group Aqualis ASA, carried out an assessment of the layout constraints across the East Anglia THREE site and assisted with the development of the overall layout of the wind turbine generators while considering a number of variables including bathymetry, soil conditions, seabed mobility, foundation type and foundation installation.

“We were delighted to be able to support ScottishPower Renewables in their foundations strategy for East Anglia Three.  We understood at this stage that all foundation types were still being evaluated and we believe that by applying our newly developed engineering techniques we were able to recommend the most economical options during last summer’s site investigation campaign. Our initial analysis shows that significant savings in capex budget may be possible,”
said Will Cleverly, a Director of OWC.

East Anglia THREE is wholly owned by ScottishPower Renewables and covers an area of approximately 305km2. It will consist of up to 172 wind turbines, each with a capacity between 7-12MW, giving  an overall installed capacity of up to 1,200MW.
