Partners Group, the global private markets investment manager, has seen record demand for its most recent direct private infrastructure offering. The firm has raised a total of €3bn via its latest flagship global direct program, for which fundraising ended this month.

At the time of its final close, the Program was committed to eleven investments on behalf of its investors including Borssele 3&4, a wind farm development located off the coast of the Netherlands.

Brandon Prater, Partner, Head Private Infrastructure Europe, Partners Group, states: "We continue to focus on our proven strategy of investing in high-quality infrastructure assets or projects, with value creation potential and visibility on future cash-flow generation. In the current environment, the sectors we believe offer the most attractive opportunities globally include the renewables, communications, and energy infrastructure sectors, where certain transformative trends have led to outsized pockets of growth."

On 8th January 2018 Partners Group agreed to acquire a 45% stake in Borssele 3&4. It owns the project alongside Shell (20%), Mitsubishi (15%), Eneco (10%) and Van Oord (10%) who secured the project rights in December 2016 as part of a tender held by the Dutch Government.

The 731.5MW offshore wind farm will comprise of 77 MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines placed across two sites in the Borssele Wind Farm Zone, which is 22km off the coast of the province of Zeeland, at the southern border of the Netherlands' Exclusive Economic Zone. Construction is due to start in the second-half of 2018 and commercial operations are expected to commence in 2021.

When fully operational, the project is expected to generate 3 TWh per year, enough to power approximately 825,000 households.
