Today PT Pertamina (Persero) and Akuo Energy have signed Memorandum of Understanding for developing new and renewable energy for electricity throughout Indonesia.

This partnership will be signed by Director of New and Renewable Energy Pertamina, Yenni Andayani, and CEO of Akuo energy, Eric Scotto. This collaboration between Pertamina and Akuo Energy aims to carry out solid partnership to do an integrated business in renewables for Wind, Solar PV and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC).

Director of New and Renewable Energy Pertamina, Yenni Andayani, said that robust growth of economic in Indonesia has triggered electricity demand exponentially by 8.5% since 2011. Meanwhile, Government of Indonesia had targeted renewable energy will take apart 23% of contribution in energy mix for next 2025.

“Pertamina and Akuo Energy by this collaboration will fully support government of Indonesia to provide electricity based on new and renewable energy. We will scope for the identification of appropriate location in which fit with all three kind of renewable energy that being our main focus (Wind, Solar PV, OTEC). As we all know, government has more interest on remote islands which is highly dependent on diesel fuel for generating electricity to fulfill energy demand on this islands. At this phase, we focus on that region”
, said Mrs. Yenni.

At first stage in this year, Pertamina and Akuo Energy will decide 3 prospective islands in which will be developed further for implementing renewable energy power plant by considering: total area of islands, population, available renewable energy resources, future infrastructure development, technology & business adaptability, social acceptance and existing energy supply-demand balance.

In 2016, Pertamina and Akuo Energy will build first solar PV power plants (5MWp), and finish development phase for first wind power plants (60 MW). Mrs. Yenni said for next 2018, both will target to start build renewable energy power plants (Wind, Solar PV, OTEC) on larger scale in order to accomplish 560 MW in our portfolio.

“In 2018, we hope all development in Wind, Solar PV and OTEC in larger scale will starting and total capacity for all this kind of technology will reach our expected project portfolio up to 560 MW”,
says Mrs. Yenni

At the end, this collaboration between Pertamina and Akuo Energy not only gives positive contribution to our environment by implemented power plant with zero emission, but also gives high position to Indonesia as a main key player on new and renewable energy development in ASEAN. And for additional statement from Mrs. Yenni, “All construction for portfolio project will be fully optimized by local content”.
