BOWLSeaway Heavy Lifting has installed half of the foundation piles at the Beatrice offshore wind farm after its work began in April. Work is being carried out by the using the heavy lift vessel Stanislav Yudin.

The Beatrice project is a joint venture between SSE Renewables Limited, SDIC Power of China and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. It is situated in the Outer Moray Firth off the east coast of Scotland and is expected to be operational by 2019.

The installation of the jacket foundations is scheduled to commence later this year and is expected to be carried out by another of SHL's heavy lift vessels, the Oleg Strashnov.

Once complete the wind farm is estimated to deliver £680m into the UK and Scottish economy via employment and supply chain opportunities during the construction phase, and around £400-£525m during the wind farm’s 25 year operational life.

The project features 84 Siemens 7MW wind turbines which will be inter-connected by an inner array grid of 91 33kV medium voltage alternating current submarine composite cables with a total length of up to 164 km.
