12-Jan-2017 Event Type: Inspection, Maintenance & Repair - Turbine
Turbine The transformer retrofit campaign headed by Siemens added a flange between the sensors in the transformers and the oil expansion tank within the turbines. This resolved the issue of air pockets developing in the transformer tanks tripping the oil level sensors. Around a third of the turbines were retrofitted in 2016 with the rest to be retrofitted in the opening months of 2017.
Siemens stated: "The retrofit does not require a jack-up vessel and addresses a specific and limited design issue for this transformer. There are no implications for the 6/7MW turbine configuration in general."
