Race Bank SOV delivered

Norwegian shipowner Østensjø Rederi has confirmed that it has taken delivery of purpose-built Service Operations Vessel (SOV) Edda Passat. By the end of this week the vessel be deployed to the Race Bank wind farm where it will operate as a mother ship for wind turbine technicians as they execute maintenance work.

It was constructed by GONDAN shipyard in Figueras, Spain and hit the water back in April 2017. On the 13th February it departed for the Port of Gijón for sea trials. It is equipped with an UPTIME 23m heave compensated “walk-to-work” gangway, a 3D compensated crane and crew transfer vessel landing system with bunkering facility.

In addition to the gangway, the on-board-fitted 11m daughter craft will allow the safe transfer of maintenance technicians to the offshore wind turbines.

The vessel will operate from a logistics base currently under construction in Grimsby Fish Docks, UK. Ørsted's Race Bank project achieved full power at the start of February and with a capacity of 573.3MW it is anticipated to meet the energy demands of 400,000 UK homes per year.

GONDAN is also constructing Edda Passat's sister vessel, Edda Mistralfor Østensjø Rederi. The vessel will also operate out of Grimsby and will service another of Ørsted's projects, the Hornsea Project One wind farm currently under construction 120km off the Yorkshire coast.
