Race Bank topside in place

Seaway Heavy Lifting’s Oleg Strashnov has installed the second offshore substation topside at the Race Bank offshore wind farm over the weekend. The vessel installed the associated jacket foundation on 16th March.

Iemants and Engie Fabricom fabricated the topside and jacket foundation for both the substations, the first of which was installed by the Oleg Strashnov in August 2016.

A2SEA's SEA INSTALLER is expected to arrive on site during April for installation of the project's 91 turbines. The vessel has been outfitted with four massive adapter rings in preparation and will install four turbines at a time.

The 573MW Race Bank project is located nearly 17 miles off the North Norfolk coast and will cover an area of approximately 29 square miles. It will feature Siemens SWT-6.0-154 wind turbines, each with a 6MW capacity and stand at 177m tall.

Last week DONG Energy awarded Specialist Marine Consultants Ltd a contract for the supply of wind turbine generator and cable installation Client Representatives for the project. The Client Representatives, all from the local area, will be based on an installation vessel monitoring the wind turbine generator construction and installation process.
