Recycling company to establish operations in Frederikshavn

The new activities are expected to create 150-200 jobs in the Frederikshavn harbour area. This agreement moreover constitutes an important building block in the harbour’s strategic foundation with respect to the upcoming DKK 571m port extension.

The extensive port expansion plans have three main stages. Stage one is to be initiated in spring 2018 with the two further stages to follow once demand justifies the new facilities. The first stage consists of creating 330,000 metres of development land, with 30,000 metres of wharf facilities. The main feature will be 600 metres of new quay extending into deeper water outside of the ports current breakwater.

Modern American Recycling Services is a company mainly operating within the scrapping and recycling of oil platforms and ships, and they have 40 years’ experience in the field – e.g. from the Gulf of Mexico where platform scrapping has been in operation for a number of years. The contract comprises a lease agreement concerning a substantial harbour area plus a handling agreement concerning the scrap metal produced in connection with the scrapping activities.

Mikkel Seedorff Sorensen, Managing Director at the port states:
